TEST PREP: SAT & PSAT

Students improve their scores on the SAT (and PSAT) by doing the following:

  1. Understand the test. The SAT is much more like a puzzle or game than it is like an ordinary test. The better students understand what the test is asking of them, the more likely they are to succeed on it.
  2. Approach the test in the right frame of mind. The SAT is as much a psychological battle as an intellectual one. To do well, students must learn how to be as relaxed as possible while also maintaining their focus.
  3. Practice. Practice may not make perfect, but it does make us better. It’s impossible to strengthen the problem-solving skills needed for the SAT without consistent and repeated application.

Consequently, we have assembled a staff of expert SAT tutors who possess all the following attributes:

  1. A thorough understanding of the SAT and the skills to explain—in many different ways—methods for solving every kind of SAT problem.
  2. The sensitivity necessary both to identify any psychological and intellectual traits that bring down a student’s performance and to coach techniques for combating them.
  3. The ability to inspire students to put in the necessary work.

Unlike many SAT companies and tutors, who apply a one-size-fits-all approach to SAT (and PSAT) prep, we believe very strongly that in order to maximize performance on the test it is necessary to tailor the prep process to the individual student and develop an approach that suits him or her best.
