Our SHSAT prep program involves the following elements:
Matching: When assigning a tutor, we strive to make the best possible match for each student. Among the factors we take into account are the student’s learning style, general interests and temperament.
Tutoring Sessions: Our standard SHSAT tutoring session is 75 minutes and takes place in the student’s home. As we only hire tutors who have mastered teaching the test as a whole, we assign one tutor per student.
While most students meet with their tutors once a week, we sometimes recommend more frequent sessions. (We can only recommend.) On some occasions (especially for early starters), we recommend sessions every other work.
Homework: Homework is a key component of the prep process, especially for the SHSAT with its demands on math knowledge. The material we use comes from a variety of sources, some of which we provide and others which we ask parents to supply.
Practice Tests: While our SHSAT prep program doesn’t offer supervised practice tests directly, there are a number of different ways in which we ensure that students who take the SHSAT come to the test prepared.
Supervision: We have great confidence and trust in our tutors, but we also take care to monitor each student’s progress. We check in with both tutors and parents on a regular basis in order to ensure that maximum improvement is achieved.
Although the elements of the tutoring process are constant, the structure of the program varies, depending on when the process begins.
